Butia Capitata-Jelly Palm

Jelly Palm

Butia Capitata

The Butia Capitata (Jelly Palm) is a mid-size evergreen palm with a stout solitary trunk topped with blue-green to gray-green leaves that curve in towards the trunk, creating a slightly weeping effect.

It is called a jelly palm because its fruit is full of pectin and therefore used to thicken jams and jellies. It is also used to make wine in some parts of the world.
